Netflix is expanding its gaming footprint with the announcement of Spirit Crossing, a cozy MMO being developed by Spry Fox, the studio behind Cozy Grove. Revealed during the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Spirit Crossingmarks Netflix’s first foray into the massively multiplayer online genre and continues its commitment to original, mobile-friendly gaming experiences.
Spirit Crossing is described as a “cozy MMO” where players explore a warm, stylized world filled with charming creatures, pastel landscapes, and communal gameplay. The game promises a blend of open-world exploration, crafting, foraging, and social interaction—echoing the vibes of Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley but with a persistent online world that encourages collaboration and long-term play.
The game’s visual aesthetic leans into soft, hand-drawn art and calming environments, with gameplay built around positive interactions, community building, and gentle narrative elements. Spry Fox, now a Netflix-owned studio, has a reputation for emotional storytelling and relaxing game mechanics, making it a fitting partner for this project.
A closed alpha for Spirit Crossing is already accepting sign-ups, signaling that development is well underway. No official release date has been announced yet, but Netflix confirmed the title will be available through its mobile app and possibly on additional platforms.
With Spirit Crossing, Netflix continues to blur the line between streaming entertainment and interactive gaming, signaling its ambition to become a major player in the games industry.
