Ubisoft Addresses Assassin’s Creed Shadows Leak

On February 24, reports surfaced that Assassin’s Creed Shadows had leaked online, with several individuals streaming the game nearly a month ahead of its official March 20 release.

Over the weekend, posts on social media—now deleted—revealed that physical copies were being sold before the official launch, and multiple streams of the unreleased title appeared on platforms like Twitch. The GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit was among the first to take notice.

Ubisoft has now responded to the situation, acknowledging the leak on the Assassin’s Creed subreddit and urging fans to avoid spoiling the game for others.

“We are aware that some players have accessed Assassin’s Creed Shadows before its official release. The development team is still finalizing patches to enhance the experience at launch, and any footage shared online does not reflect the final version of the game,” the company stated.

Describing leaks as disappointing and harmful to player excitement, Ubisoft also thanked the community for helping to limit the spread of spoilers.

“Please refrain from spoiling the experience for others. We appreciate the efforts of those who are protecting fellow players from unwanted reveals. Stay in the shadows, steer clear of spoilers, and keep an eye on our official channels for exciting updates. March 20 will be here soon!”

This leak adds to a series of recent challenges for Ubisoft and its flagship Assassin’s Creed franchise. The company has already faced backlash for mistakenly using a historical group’s flag without permission and for historical inaccuracies in Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ depiction of Japan.

Originally slated for a November release, the game was first delayed to February 14 before settling on the current March 20 launch date. With Ubisoft struggling in the wake of underwhelming sales from other recent titles and facing pressure from investors, Assassin’s Creed Shadows carries high expectations.
